Restoran Chiun Yi Roasted Meats - Kampung Baru Balakong

Sister is back for a one-week break from National Service! To celebrate, the entire family goes off to nearby Restoran Chiun Yi for some assorted roasted meats.

The shop also sells a small selection of yong tau foo. Focus is surely on the roast meats though.

Another view of the auntie and uncle busy chopping away.

What I like most about this place is that it's air conditioned! Most roast meats places are hot and noisy, but here we can relax in air conditioned comfort.

On to the food - we start off with some basic yong tau foo - Fried foo cuk (beancurd skin), brinjal, and tau foo pok (some sort of tofu). All stuffed with solid fish paste. Not too bad, but not spectacular either.

The focus of course, is on the meats. The siew yuk is nice and has a nice crispy skin. Char siew is of the sweet-glazed variety, and is also pretty good, although I would have prefered a more BBQ'ed/charred texture/taste on the skin. The Roasted Chicken was a tad bit too salty. No comments on the sausage because I didn't eat it.

Overall, the bill came up to MYR70 for 8-person portion of roast meat, 6 drinks and 6 pieces of yong tau foo, which is plenty cheap. To get here, take the SILK highway from Mines towards Kajang, and turn left when you see the Kampung Baru Balakong signboard.
